About us
A church family built on God's Word.
Gospel Light is an independent Baptist church in Lafayette, Louisiana, founded in 2021.
Our story
Planted in Lafayette in 2021
Gospel Light Baptist Church held its first service on August 1, 2021. It began as a church plant with a simple goal: to preach the Gospel in Lafayette and build a church where people grow in the Lord together.
Since then, God has added families, saved souls, and filled our building with people of every age. We're a young church, but our message is the same one Baptist churches have been preaching for generations: Jesus saves.
Our pastor
Pastor Jake & Ariel Weido
Pastor Jake Weido and his wife, Ariel, lead Gospel Light with a heart for God's Word and for reaching Lafayette with the Gospel. They'd love to meet you and your family.
Feel free to introduce yourself after a service, or reach out anytime at glbclafayette@gmail.com.
What we believe
Our doctrine
We're an independent Baptist church. Here are the core truths we stand on.
The Bible
We believe the Bible is the inspired, preserved Word of God and our final authority for faith and practice.
2 Timothy 3:16God
We believe in one God, eternally existing in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Matthew 28:19Jesus Christ
We believe Jesus Christ is God in the flesh, born of a virgin, who lived a sinless life, died for our sins, and rose bodily from the grave.
John 1:14Salvation
We believe salvation is a free gift of God's grace, received by faith in Jesus Christ alone, and not by works.
Ephesians 2:8-9Eternal Security
We believe that everyone who is truly saved is kept by the power of God and can never be lost.
John 10:28Baptism
We believe in believer's baptism by immersion, a picture of the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ, following salvation.
Romans 6:4The Local Church
We believe the local church is God's plan for this age: an independent, self-governing body of baptized believers.
Acts 2:41-42The Return of Christ
We believe in the personal, imminent return of the Lord Jesus Christ for His church.
1 Thessalonians 4:16-17
